Annual 'Harbour Fest' (i.e. Town Party) Ready To Launch

Race a boat, listen to music, watch the *new* clam-cake-eating contest … at Town Beach Sunday.

It started with the Wickford Cup race 11 years ago – hundreds of tiny "chartered" boats that sailed off on the prevailing tide. The Harbour Fest was born to add to the race and make it a real North Kingstown party.

Sunday's event goes from noon to 5 p.m. In addition to entertainment, local foods, games, vendors, a fire truck, and hayrides, there will be a couple of new items – a dunk tank and a clam-cake-eating contest.

"It's a very family-oriented event," said Melissa Devine, a Harbour Fest committee member.

"Everything leads to the boat race," she said. The boat race will start at about 4:30 p.m., preceded by the clam-cake-eating contest and a variety of family-oriented entertainment.
