Police Log: Assaulting Behavior & A Mystery Bullet

Information about the following incidents was supplied by the North Kingstown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Thursday, July 4

7:24 p.m. – Relatives of a North Kingstown man told police he had been loud and belligerent to his elderly mother, with whom he lives. The mother was reluctant to make any statements against her son though she did say he had been belligerent and rude. She asked he leave the house for the night. He agreed to go so police took him to the Budget Inn.

9:01 p.m. – Police arrested Michael Graham, 49, of Boston Neck Road, on one count each of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and obstructing police and five counts of simple assault, after a struggle with Graham at his house following investigation of a 911 hang up call. Police arrived at the house and noticed the front screen door appeared to have been vandalized and the front door was wide open. On approaching the house, police noticed a man, who turned out to be Graham, inside the house beside a large pile of marijuana on the dining room table. He then screamed at someone else in the house to get out of the house, using a crude obscenity usually directed toward women. When the police officer identified himself, Graham told him "to get out of here," adding an obscenity, and slammed the door in the officer's face. The officer entered the house and called for backup. Graham again yelled at the officer to leave. Police saw a shotgun leaning against a wall, with shotgun shells scattered around the room. Graham refused to allow the officer to pat him down and continued to hurl obscenities at him. The officer and Graham scuffled before the officer finally took him to the ground and held him there until backup officers arrived. Police were able to handcuff Graham at that point and search the rest of the house. Upstairs, they found a large marijuana growing operation. As police attempted to escort Graham out of the house, he suddenly planted his feet and threw his weight against one of the officers, causing his head to hit a wall. He continued to struggle, trying to pry himself free. Police used pepper spray in his eyes, after which Graham stopped fighting. At the police car, Graham again began struggling, but he was ultimately secured in the back of the cruiser. At the station, Graham was secured in a cell and processing was delayed while waiting for him to be more cooperative. Police took custody of the marijuana and the shotgun and shells.
