Exhibit runs Sept 5- October 1, 2013Renowned Artist Janet Alling,
graduated from Yale School of Art and Architecture with a BFA and MFA in
painting in 1962 and 1964. Since 1968 she has chosen plants and flowers
as her subject matter. Her paintings are portrayals of life, energy, drama and
color rather than simply floral portraiture. She is a romantic in a world of extroverts.
Her recent series are close-up views
of gardens, and could be interpreted as seen from the viewpoint of an
approaching insect.
Alling moved to Providence, RI in
2005 after living, working and exhibiting in New York City for 40 years.
In 2010 she had a retrospective exhibition at The Newport Art Museum and
published her first book entitled Flora, Paintings by Janet Alling. Her work was exhibited at Hotel Providence in
downtown Providence, Rhode Island in 2013.
