Lynne M. Harper, Neighbor

Recently named the RI delegate to the 2012 Mom Congress on Education and Learning in DC, I was born and raised in South Kingstown. Graduate of SKHS, Class of 1980. Graduated URI College of Enineering, Class of 1984. Lived in Warwick, West Warwick, East Greenwich, Narragansett and East Providence; yet came back to SK with Husband Jim in 1995 and wondered why I ever left.

So pleased to be able to raise our two incredible children here where there are so many wonderful friends, family members and community resources all around us. The Harper family is also blessed by the presence, BIG presence, of our dog Lance. A Great Dane Black Lab mix we adopted from American Lab Rescue.

Career path went from engineering, to nonprofit fundraising, communications and management, to independent freelance consultant (www.INSPIREneer.org) to NPOs and now Director of Programs for an incredible organization called The Volunteer Family (www.thevolunteerfamily.org). It's not designing sewers and parking lots (not that I really enjoyed that) but it is something that allows me the flexibility to be the mom I want to be AND contribute to "the greater good" in a way that I feel is more in-line with my soul.

I'm an advocate for quality education, parent involement, open communication amongst educators, residents and local government. Firmly believe in community involvement through volunteer community service in all its forms. Its all about people and how we treat each other, those around us and the "patch" of earth we call home.
