We're half way through the summer vacation and I think I may finally have some answers to my kid's most frequently asked questions!
During the four-plus very long (painfully long) months of baseball season, I jump out of bed each morning and start my day with a wee moment of silence in which I pray for three very simple things: fields with running water (not porta-johns), no extra innings and the presence of mind to facilitate the logistics of getting the right kid to the right field at the right time, regardless if we have to be at four games at once. This past season my prayers were answered many times over. The monsoon season we experienced meant lots of cancellations, therefore no traveling to other fields, no extra innings because of all the cancellations, and (best of all) I managed to orchestrate a near-perfect delivery of landing my kids at the right field, …

We all have dreams--and after reading one of my son's reports on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.--I now have a new one!
My kids got out of school last Friday and no sooner did the bus roll out of the hood, their backpacks – heaping with everything they could possibly clean out of their lockers – came tumbling into the living room and landed on every possible open walking space all within 35 seconds. I twitched momentarily then gasped for breath knowing that they’re in my charge now for the next 10 weeks! As I sifted through piles of reports, essays, math packets and petrified food remains, I reminded myself that I’m not a newbie summer-vaca mom, and that every year the 10 weeks of summer gets a little longer, I mean easier. I may be a S.O.B. (Save Only the Best mom) but I treat the belongings of their last-day-of school treasures much differently than …

Lists don't have to be just for keeping track of errands, chores and appointments. They can also be a great reminder of how to schedule in some fun!
The calendar will soon turn from June to July and, with that established, we are now entering the blissful throes of summer vacation. Vacation may not be the right choice of words, depending on your frame of mind if you are besieged by looking at the next eight weeks and wondering how you’ll manage to keep all your offspring happy, but if you have a “Summer To-Do” list close at hand, you are sure to offer you and your family so much more than desperately looking ahead to the highly anticipated back-to-school sales. (Though it’s ok to get a little excited about those as well, just be discreet in front of the children!)
