Need help during the storm? Here's a list of emergency phone numbers to keep handy.

From emergency numbrs for National Grid to local emergency response officials, we've compiled a list of emergency phone numbers for North Kingstown during the hurricane. To report a power outage or downed lines, contact National Grid at –  800-465-1212 To report a gas leak, contact National Grid at – 800-465-1595   For immediate police/fire/rescue,  call 911. For non-emergency help, call 211.   For traffic reports, call 511. For the State Emergency Management Agency, call 401-946-9996. 'Cane Blog: Don't Tamper With Cox Generators

Thursday, 12:25 p.m.  The North Kingtown Police Department would like to remind residents not to tamper, disable or remove generators that are connected to broadband and communication networks. These generators have been set up to restore "critical Internet and telephone service." Disabling or removing these generators eliminates Internet access and the ability to make phone calls, including 911 calls. Doing so is against federal law. Wednesday, 10:30 a.m.  National Grid now reports 2,200 North Kingstown customers are still without power. At this time yesterday, the figure was more than double that. Town Officials 'Planning for the Worst' As Hurricane Approaches

As North Kingstown officials await the hurricane's forecast, plans are set in motion to prepare for the worst.

As the Category 3 storm barrels toward the North Carolina coast, officials in North Kingstown are setting plans in motion to prepare for the arrival of Hurricane Irene here in the Ocean State. Forecasters are predicting Irene's intensity will be anywhere from a tropical storm to a strong Category 3 when it hits Rhode Island on Sunday. Town officials are planning for the worst. "We're preparing for a Category 3 right now," said Town Manager Michael Embury. "That's the advice that's come through, so far. We're prepared for the worst."
