We heard it all last night - whistling wind that terrified our pets and kept light sleepers on their toes. As residents get up and ready for the day, branches cam be seen strewn throughout a number of North Kingstown's streets. National Weather Service Alert In Effect Through 8 a.m. Thursday.
The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for North Kingstown and the rest of the state, beginning at about 9 p.m. tonight and lasting through the evening till 8 a.m. Thursday. Strong southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts of 50 to 60 mph will move into our area later this evening. In addition to the wind, 3/4 inch to 1 inch of rain is possible with this system and some localized flooding may occur. Damage to trees, power lines and property is possible with winds at these speeds, according to the alert. Officials also caution people to secure outdoor objects to prevent them from being blown around during the evening.

The National Weather Service reports there's a wind advisory for North Kingstown and much of the surrounding area through 3 p.m. The strongest winds are forecast for 10 a.m. through 3 p.m. Southeast winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts of 45 mph are possible during this time period. These strong winds could cause some power outages today. The National Weather Service has also issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook alert for the area, noting rain will continue throughout the day, possibly becoming heavy a times, causing minor urban and poor drainage flooding in some spots.
