Rolling Greens, Corner Tavern and the former Bald Hill Nursery properties have been rezoned to a compact village development.
North Kingstown how has land zoned compact village development. The new zoning district got its first takers as the NK Town Council rezoned portions of the Route 2/102 intersection as a CVD – including the land at Rolling Greens Golf Course. This is the first time the CVD zone has been used in town after the council recently passed an updated version of the zoning district. The North Kingstown Planning Commission rehashed the existing CVD following discussions regarding the application for a village center at Rolling Greens Golf Course. The project, called The Preserve at Rolling Greens, has come under heavy scrutiny from residents who are against more commercial in the area and also want to preserve the rural landscape at that …

From biking to walking to healthy foods, North Kingstown has a plan of attack on how to become a healthier community.
Months of community meetings, surveys and discussion have culminated in the Healthy Places by Design action plan, which town planners hope will be a “major focus piece” for rewriting North Kingstown’s comprehensive plan. At its Monday night meeting, the North Kingstown Town Council accepted the plan that outlines what North Kingstown is currently doing to become a healthier community and what still needs to be done. North Kingstown was awarded $225,000 in federal grants for the Healthy Places by Design initiative, along with Pawtucket and South Kingstown. The project is part of a nationwide grant program to help communities implement policy changes that foster health and wellness. The Town of North Kingstown partnered with West Bay Family …

At its last meeting, the North Kingstown Town Council heard public input on the much contested new compact village development (CVD) ordinance draft, but delayed a final vote until the next meeting on Feb. 27, 2012 when all five councilors can be present. (Councilor Stamm was absent last week and had asked for the delay.) Two important aspects of that meeting were that a petition was handed in on behalf of the developer proposing the Rolling Greens project and that a resident proposed a very interesting compromise solution which addresses all the issues with this problematic new ordinance. The petition reads: "North Kingstown Residents Petition in Support of a Retirement Community, the Preservation of 90 acres and a Public Golf Course." …

The Town Council will vote on a compact village development district on Feb. 27.
Following months of planning commission meetings filled with deliberations, delays and constant public input, the fate of a controversial village center zoning district has once again been pushed back. The North Kingstown Town Council decided to push back its pivotal vote until Feb. 27, when fellow committee member Charles Stamm (who was absent from Monday’s meeting) would be able to attend. The North Kingstown Planning Commission began to look at the zoning district in question – a compact village development (CVD) zone – following plans proposed by Mark Hawkins for a village center at Rolling Greens Golf Course on Ten Rod Road. Since its initial meeting in December 2010, nearby residents have come out largely opposing the 102-acre, …
