Wickford Lumber closed earlier this month. What should take it's place?

But, if it were up to you, what would you like to see happen to these buildings? The property was initially a depot stop for the Newport/Wickford railroad line before becoming a lumberyard for the area. If it were up to you, what should happen to this building…

That's really too bad. I can't speak for the burritos, but the tacos here were my favorite in RI. I'm sad to see this place go, but not surprised that they closed based on their location. Maybe they can reopen as a food truck in Providence or around the beaches in the summer... I'll miss you, Trinis!   more ›

I often think about why everything is empty in NK. If I look at why I frequent certain businesses or areas it is because they are a destination and may fulfill several needs on my excursion list. In addition, I look for places that appeal to me visually as well. A box style building versus the architecture reminincent of our area (ex: Tim Horton's) Restaurants wih interesting decor/themes, stores…   more ›

What Business Would You Open in NK?

Your imagination is the only limit, what would you open in North Kingstown?

Imagine you had the tools and resources at your disposal - what business would you like to open in North Kingstown? What would work in the community? With our "Up to You" series, we've asked North Kingstown residents what they would do with vacant buildings throughout town. Many have called for an upscale restaurant. Others have wanted a Target, Sam's or Costco, especially in the vacant Lowe's building in Quonset. Personally, I wish North Kingstown had a movie theater or small venue to see musical performances and/or plays. If you could open any type of business in town, what would it be? If you have a specific vision for a specific spot in town, even better! Tell us in the comments.

All the great ideas for nice dining in North Kingstown are wonderful, but we will not have a restaurant scene here until we have a real sewer system. Run the sewer lines into Wickford, all the way down Route 1 and 1A, and tie in the high school while we're at it. When something seems like a great idea but it hasn't happened yet, there is usually a logical reason for it , and this is it.   more ›

So far this school year, we have paid approximately $300,000 for the education of our Special needs students. This money (read tax dollars) leaves our district to Special Needs schools around the state. I think a good use of this building would be to establish it as a Special Needs school for our district. Doing this the money will stay in the town of NK, the children will be closer to home and …   more ›

Here is the idea. Separate the place into multiple small kiosk style shops with a wide hall down the middle. At the end, put in a restaurant and make the current back into an open deck area for dining. You may think that there is not enough traffic downtown to warrant another restaurant however they draw traffic.   more ›
