Two major areas of the Route 2/102 intersection were rezoned last week to a compact village development.
Rolling Greens Golf Course, the Corner Tavern and the former Bald Hill Garden Center properties were rezoned as a compact village development following a unanimous vote from the North Kingstown Town Council. The changes come following a rehashing of the CVD zone and the conclusion of a stakeholder group tasked with creating a vision for the intersection after a sizable public outcry from residents concerning a proposed village center at Rolling Greens. In the final chance before a decision is made on a development at Rolling Greens Golf Course, NK residents called on members of the North Kingstown Town Council to deny the controversial application. The plan would bring a mixed-use development of homes and commercial shops to the intersection of Route 2 and 102. Since the plan came to light more than two years ago, a large group of residents has come out to staunchly oppose the project – particularly the commercial portions of it. The North Kingstown Town Council will not be discussing The Preserve at Rolling Greens tonight as it awaits a recommendation from the Planning Commission. Per state law, the commission must send a recommendation to the council before it can act. The North Kingstown Planning Commission is expected to make a decision on the application for the controversial village center at its Tuesday night meeting. The North Kingstown Planning Department has rescheduled a meeting for a proposal at Rolling Greens due to Hurricane Sandy.
A proposal for a development at Rolling Greens Golf Course on Ten Rod Road, which has been in the developing process for several years, is once again seeing delays. This time, however, they are weather related. Hurricane Sandy's extreme weather has caused the North Kingstown Planning Commission to reschedule its Tuesday, Oct. 30 meeting to discuss the proposal. The new meeting is now pushed to Thursday, Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Wickford Middle School. Rolling Greens comes back on the planning commission table next month.
The North Kingstown Planning Commission is getting a look at a new master plan for a proposed village center development at Rolling Greens Golf Course next month. A stakeholder group will now begin to study the contentious intersection.
The North Kingstown Town Council approved a $54,135 “visioning process” to study a controversial area of town – the intersection of Route 2 and 102 where a village center development has been proposed. The study will be conducted by a stakeholder group made up of a mixture of neighboring residents, business owners in the area and conservationists. The council cut the number of voting stakeholders from 16 to 11. (See below for the current roster for this stakeholders group.) Dear Planning Director and Planning Commission Members, We are totally incredulous that the application for “The Preserve at Rolling Greens” is still ongoing and being considered. Did we not learn anything from our recent (and still ongoing) fiasco concerning wind energy systems? That being: We wholeheartedly agree with Gardner Palmer, who questions the creation of a whole new zoning district, and with Jeff Michaelson, who very astutely asked “Are we tailoring the ordinance to the application?” We urge you to listen to the residents whom you represent and deny “The Preserve at Rolling Greens.” Ralph & Edris Crockford 359 Laurel Ridge Lane

@ OrangesPoranges The tax rate in EG is 17.49/thousand. In Nk it is 17.26/thousand. 2011/2012 data. I doubt that .23 cents makes a difference. NK has a lot of negs Which EG does not. We have received mutiple black eyes over the years with the SC and TC bs and bad press. NK has an anti-business reputation and little has been done to curb that opinion.
