RIHS Football Media Poll – North Kingstown is looking better this year in D-II play.
Thanks to an impressive win over No. 3 Portsmouth, top-ranked La Salle has solidified its grip on the No. 1 spot in the latest Rhode Island High School Football Media Poll. La Salle gained six points and three more first place votes from last week, increasing its lead on No. 2 Hendrickren from two points to nine. The Hawks won their game, shutting out South Kingstown. The rest of the poll stayed relatively stable, except for two teams. Cumberland moved up four spots, from No. 16 to No. 12. The Clippers are 1-1, with a competitive 12-6 loss to Division I Cranston West and a shutout of Division II Central, 28-0. Woonsocket plummeted in the rankings, from No. 10 to No. 19. East Providence defeats North Kingstown 49-14
An early lead wasn't enough for the North Kingstown High School football team to pull off a win against East Providence Friday night as the Skippers fell to the Townies 49-14 at Pierce Memorial Field. The Skippers began the game on a high note as a long drive was punctuated with a six-yard touchdown pass. Alex Sabitoni caught the pass from Jacob Morris and North Kingstown led 7-0 with about five minutes left in the first quarter. Senior Jalin Braxton was a force all night for the Townies. A 28-yard run by Braxton set up 1st and goal from the seven-yard line. Senior quarterback Brandon Peters ran the option and scurried into the end zone to tie the game. Jeff Cammans prepared for his senior season at URI by playing baseball in Vermont.
Determined to finish his career at the University of Rhode Island with a great season, North Kingstown native Jeff Cammans spent this summer playing baseball 250 miles from home in Montpelier, VT. From the first week in June to the first week in August, Cammans played in 34 games for the Vermont Mountaineers of the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL). He had the second most hits on the team (29), tied for the second most runs batted in (15) and contributed 11 of the team’s 118 steals, which broke the previous NECBL record of 110. “It is one of the best summer leagues in the country,” said Cammans. “The level of play is very competitive because you’re playing against some of the best college players in the nation.” Cammans’ …
