Poll: Should Boston Neck Road Have a Uniform Speed Limit?

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation is considering changing the speed limit on Boston Neck Road.

In some areas it's 30 mph, in others it's 45 mph. Even to a born-and-bred North Kingstown resident, the speed limits on Boston Neck Road can be darn confusing. Due to complaints from motorists and locals, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation is considering one consistent speed limit for the length of Boston Neck, from Beach Street to the town line. During initial surveys, the DOT found that the average speed on the road is between 37 and 38 mph. Therefore, the DOT is proposing a 35 mph speed limit to cover the entire stretch of the roadl According to Police Chief Thomas Mulligan, speed limits along Boston Neck change often. Wickford Junction Averaging 150 Riders Per Day

Wickford Junction is slowly gaining ridership in South County.

It’s been more than a month since the first purple and gray commuter rail train made its way into Wickford Junction on April 23. According to transportation officials, ridership has been slow but steady during that time with an average of 150 riders per day. “It’s certainly not unexpected, especially entering into the summer season with people talking more about vacations less about work trips,” said Stephen Devine, chief of Intermodal Planning at the Rhode Island Department of Transportation. Devine added that transit services tend to see slow growth, as evidenced by the opening of the commuter rail service in Providence in 1988. “We only had about 150 to 200 people per day for a couple of years when we first opened Providence,” said …
