Former NK Town Manager to Take Interim Gig in Narragansett

Unless the Narragansett Town Council is unable to reach an agreement with Richard Kerbel, he will take over as interim town manager from Narragansett Police Chief Dean Hoxsie.

NARRAGANSETT - About an hour after he received a standing ovation from residents, the Narragansett Town Council voted 3-2 to essentially remove interim town manager Dean Hoxsie from the position. In his place, the council appointed Richard Kerbel as interim manager, which elicited a mixture of surprise and laments from the crowd of about 80 that stayed until the end of Monday night's meeting. Kerbel served as town manager in North Kingstown for 13 years. As councilors hastily voted to adjourn the meeting moments after the vote, one person from the stunned crowd yelled, “You should be ashamed,” which was preceded and followed by murmuring and light booing. Well Narragansett taxpayers are you aware that the town council is going to be paying kerbel $37.000.00 for a 4 month stint as an interim manager. Oh it gets better plus health care, and are you ready ? A deferred comp package also. So lets do some basic math. Based on the current cost of healthcare, his salary, and a deferred comp package we are upwards of $50.000.00 for what ?????? At this time…   more ›

Superintendent vs. Town Manager: Who Should Earn More?

Compare the salaries of NK's superintendent of schools and town manager.

Last week, GoLocalProv posted an article about Rhode Island's highest paid local officials – our school superintendents. According to GoLocalProv, Rhode Island's highest paid superintendent is Providence's Susan Lusi with a $190,000 salary – just $13,000 shy of State Education Commission Deborah Gist's pay.  Stephen Beale, who wrote the article, also states: The superintendents for some of the largest, more urban school districts made the top ten list, including those in Warwick, Pawtucket, and Woonsocket. But the heads of comparatively smaller school systems, such as Middletown and Portsmouth are also among the highest paid.
