Help us compile our list of the top gifts you can only find in North Kingstown.
With Thanksgiving behind us, we're now in full-tilt, holiday shopping mode. For those who don't want to venture outside the town lines and would rather support local businesses, North Kingstown Patch is once again putting together our "5 Gotta-Get Gifts in NK" list. I'll be heading out to do "research" (also known as retail therapy) this week, searching for unique gifts you can only find in North Kingstown. Last year, we featured the Coffee Cuff from Updike's Newtowne Coffee and gourmet olive oil sample packs from Narragansett Bay Olive Oil Company, among others. The Festival of Lights kicked off Thursday night in Wickford.
The 26th Annual Festival of Lights returned to Wickford Village Thursday night with the iconic tree lighting. Hundreds of locals huddled around Updike Park and enjoyed performances by the North Kingstown Community Youth Chorus and the Lafayette Band before and after the tree lighting. For the first time, the town of North Kingstown is helping to foot the bill for the event, contributing $7,000. For the past 25 seasons, the merchants of Wickford have funded the event but, due to current economic climate, were having trouble raising enough money to keep the event alive. For the full Festival of Lights schedule, see below. Friday, Dec. 2nd: Saturday, Dec. 3rd: Sunday, Dec. 4th:

Critter Hut will be hosting pet photos with Santa this weekend and next weekend, with proceeds benefiting local organizations.
When Santa Claus makes his visit to the Critter Hut this month, he won’t be posing with just children eager to share their wish lists. Instead Old St. Nick will welcome cats, dogs, birds, geckos, guinea pigs and, well, you get the idea. For the next two weekends, Santa will be visiting both Critter Hut locations in North Kingstown and Narragansett for the 5th Annual Photos with Santa – pet edition. With photo packages starting at $15, pet owners can get their furry, feathered or scaled companions in on the holiday joy. “We have entire families come in with their pets sometimes,” said Kristen Pierson, a professional photographer out of Coventry who will be snapping the photos for Critter Hut. “We have one family of four that comes in to …

Gotta Get Gifts? Well I have to throw this in the hat... our signature winter-time candle at Beauty and the Bath, Frasier Fir has become a holiday tradition with families and with good reason. It's a high quality clean burning candle that when lit, it gets right to the point. Instead of bringing the hostess a bottle of wine, bring this candle and while she or he is busy putting out hors d'oeuvres…   more ›
