Football: LaSalle Remains No. 1, NK Still Winless

The Rams receive all 12 first place votes. New teams to the poll are Narragansett and St. Raphael’s.

Unsurprisingly, La Salle remains at the top of Rhode Island Sports Media football poll following a 38-21 victory against No. 5 Portsmouth. The Rams received all 12 first place votes. Rounding out the top five are Cranston West, East Providence and Hendricken. The Falcons beat the Townies, causing a flip-flop in the poll, and Hendricken moved up a spot thanks to a tough 21-20 win against No. 11 South Kingstown. Barrington stayed at No. 6, with an easy victory against North Kingstown. South Kingstown dropped two spots, to No. 11, following the loss to Hendricken. Rogers remains the highest ranked Division III team, at No. 12. The Vikings destroyed Lincoln 41-6. Division III Narragansett also made it into the poll, at No. 15, thanks to a 7-0 …

Football: Townies Squash Skippers 49-14

East Providence defeats North Kingstown 49-14

An early lead wasn't enough for the North Kingstown High School football team to pull off a win against East Providence Friday night as the Skippers fell to the Townies 49-14 at Pierce Memorial Field. The Skippers began the game on a high note as a long drive was punctuated with a six-yard touchdown pass. Alex Sabitoni caught the pass from Jacob Morris and North Kingstown led 7-0 with about five minutes left in the first quarter. Senior Jalin Braxton was a force all night for the Townies. A 28-yard run by Braxton set up 1st and goal from the seven-yard line. Senior quarterback Brandon Peters ran the option and scurried into the end zone to tie the game.
