Five things to know for May 7.

1.  Tonight the North Kingstown Planning Commission meets at 7:30 p.m. at town hall. On the agenda, the commission will hold a public hearing for a comprehensive plan amendment for the Commons at Frenchtown and other zoning changes and discuss the project for a proposed development on Frenchtown Road. 2.  Tomorrow, Gov. Lincoln Chafee will be in town for a business community outreach forum at Beechwood Center. Joining him will be North Kingstown Town Manager Michael Embury and representatives from the RI EDC, Department of Labor and Training, and more to discuss the economy and speak to small businesses. Chamber to Hold Business Workshops This Winter

Following surveys of businesses across town, the NK Chamber of Commerce is holding a series of workshops to focus on five key areas.

The following is a press release from the North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce. NK Chamber Names New Executive Director

Starting next month, the North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce will have a new executive director at the helm.

The North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has named Martha Pughe as its next executive director. Pughe, 48, brings 15 years of experience in working for and leading non-profit organizations. She has served on the chamber’s board of directors since 2008 and was instrumental in crafting its new strategic plan. “This is going to be a new chapter going forward with the North Kingstown Chamber and I’m excited to be at the helm to bring that chapter to fruition,” said Pughe. Pughe will take the reins following the departure of longtime executive director Karla Driscoll, who retired in March after 24 years with the chamber. 5 Things: Volunteers, DMS Idol & More

Five things to know for April 25.

1.  Tonight, the North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce hosts its 7th Annual Community Volunteer Recognition celebration. The chamber will be honoring volunteers and the organizations they serve. Runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Quonset O Club. Tickets are $10 with advance reservations. 2.  This afternoon, the North Kingstown chapter of Fresh Connections for women meets at the Quonset Airport from noon to 1:30 p.m. Fresh Connections offers networking opportunities for professional women. Chamber Seeking New Executive Director Amidst Changes

The North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce has a new strategic plan and initiatives for the future.

  Expect to see a more active North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce this year, as the organization looks to innovate its approach to fostering business in town. According to Chamber Chairman Toby Aaron, the chamber has re-crafted its vision for the future to focus more on economic development and collaboration with the Town of North Kingstown, Quonset Business Park and Wickford Junction (where a commuter rail station is slated to open April 23) to attract more business to the area. “The chamber wants to take a more active role in the whole community,” said Aaron. “The chamber needs to think bigger. It needs to do bigger and broader things and bring more awareness to North Kingstown.” Part of that restructuring will be replacing the former …
