NECAP Scores Steadily Improving

The latest NECAP scores have been released.

Across the board, North Kingstown students are making steady increases on their NECAP (New England Common Assessment Program) test scores. Superintendent Phil Auger and Asst. Superintendent Michelle Humbyrd presented last fall’s scores, which tested third, eighth and eleventh graders across the state, to the North Kingstown School Committee at its Tuesday meeting. According to Humbyrd, North Kingstown is one of 13 districts in Rhode Island that has shown “statistically significant” gains in both reading and math from 2008 to 2012. Just FYI, Eugene, most of our eighth graders know that "math", "science" and "writing" would not be capitalized in the context in which you use them, and I'm pretty sure that most of them could spell "performance" properly as well. Feel free to criticize when your own performance is up to par.   more ›

North Kingstown Schools Remain Above State Average in Testing

North Kingstown scored above state averages in recent state testing.

Test scores for math and reading made slight gains in this year’s New England Common Assessment Program test as North Kingstown schools continue to stay in the top tier for scores in the state. According to test results, North Kingstown students made significant progress in both reading and math – one of only eight districts in the state to receive the commendation. Reading proficiency scores ranked at 86 percent and jumped by 3 points over last year’s results and 5 points since 2007. On the math side, scores remained at 72 percent proficiency from last year but have increased by 6 points since 2007.
