Is Target Coming to North Kingstown?

Could the red bullseye sign be coming to a North Kingstown street near you?

Those pining for Target to open in North Kingstown may get their wish granted if a proposed development is approved. Though residents have pointed to the vacant Lowe’s building in Quonset as an ideal location for the big box store, the proposed development is located north – straddling the East Greenwich-North Kingstown line on Frenchtown Road. Called Commons at Frenchtown Road, the 33-acre retail shopping center would bring 192,000 square feet of business – 231,000 including the property on the East Greenwich side – to the property adjacent to the Browne & Sharpe building. Developers are suggesting a bank, pharmacy and other small business buildings in the plaza, anchored by a big box store. Currently, the developer (Frenchtown Partners …

How can one "fix" a water table? LOL And are you saying Rt2 was repaved JUST FOR TARBOX? Yeah right. As far as "arranging for the old place to be bought", that could be considered pro-business collaboration. The town didnt buy the old site according to that part of your little conspiracy theory. Police Investigate Bomb Threat at Lowe's

Police suspect a worker placed a threatening call to the closing hardware store.

A bomb threat that cleared Lowe's in North Kingstown for hours may have been made by a disgruntled employee, according to reports. At around 2:15 p.m. on Saturday, the North Kingstown Fire Department received a call from an individual claiming that a friend who was once employed at Lowe's had placed a bomb in the store. North Kingstown fire and police officials evacuated the building before members of the Rhode Island Fire Marshal Bomb Squad arrived. After crews were unable to find anything suspicious, employees and customers were allowed to return to the building. According to police, the phone that made the threat to the fire department was a prepaid phone and untraceable. Police questioned a man whom they thought had been terminated …

Lowe's To Close NK Store; 110 To Lose Jobs

The Davisville Road location is expected to shut its doors in about a month.

More than 100 people will likely lose their jobs after Lowe’s Companies, Inc. announced Monday it is closing the North Kingstown store. The Davisville Road location is expected to shut its doors in about 4 weeks, after employees finish cataloging the store's inventory, according to Steve Salazar, a spokesman in the company's Moorseville, N.C. headquarters. Some of the 110 employees will be offered positions in other Lowe's stores. The remainder will be laid off with a severance package that includes 60 days of pay and benefits, Salazar said. Nationwide, nearly 2,000 employees will be affected. The NK site, which opened in January 2009, is among 20 Lowe's locations the company has decided to shutter, citing low performance. "The stores that…

I am one of those unfortunate employees at Lowe's in North Kingstown that closed. I will agree that the location of the store wasn't exactly ideal and perhaps a better, more visible spot would have made the difference. Here's the thing though, after it was announced via television, radio, etc... that the store would be closing we were packed with shoppers. Percentage discounts were never …   more ›
