Local Rail Service Gets a $4.5 Million Boost
U.S. Department of Transportation grant will help maintain rails in South County
On Friday, April 1, the office of Congressman Jim Langevin announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded a $4.5 million grant to the R.I. Department of Transportation. The award will be used to maintain the freight rail lines that serve Quonset Point, and help to fund the new commuter rail service scheduled to begin in 2012 from North Kingstown according to Jonathon Dworkin, Langevin's communications director.
