Obituary: Bruce Bailen, 81

24-year US Navy Veteran passed away on May 5.

  The following obituary was provided by Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home. Bruce Jay Bailen, 81, of North Kingstown, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Marlene F. (Refold) Bailen. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was a son of the late Samuel and Sadie (Parker) Bailen. He graduated from Johnson & Wales University with a BA in Business Administration. A twenty-four year Veteran of the US Navy, Mr. Bailen served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He served on the destroyer the USS Holder DD-819 and was a member of their alumni association. Dedicated military wife and mother of five passed away on May 6.

  The following obituary was provided by Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home. Helen Claire Desmarais, 85, of North Kingstown, RI, died on May 6 surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Army Colonel Arthur Joseph Desmarais, to whom she was married for over 50 years.  Helen was born and raised in Fall River, MA, the daughter of the late Nora and Alfred McNally. She attended St. Patrick's parish school and graduated from the Dominican Academy. Following high school, she worked in the Payroll Department for the Fall River Knitting Mill and during World War II, she worked at the US Post Office, and at the Firestone Company inspecting gas masks. Former postmaster of the Saunderstown Post Office Lucille Bragg passed away this week.

The following obituary was provided by Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home. Lucille Theresa Bragg died peacefully on April 20 at her daughter's home in Wickford, Rhode Island surrounded by her loving family. She was 84 years old. Bragg was born on August 17, 1928 in Providence, Rhode Island, the daughter of Marie Brindamour and Benonie LaPerche. She was the wife of the late Robert J. Bragg to whom she was married for 53 years.  She worked for the United States Postal Service for 22 years and retired as Postmaster of the Saunderstown Post Office in 1989 before retiring to Vero Beach, Florida. Known for her paintings, North Kingstown resident Irene Spencer passed away this week at the age of 88.

Spencer, Jr. Born in Coventry, she was the daughter of the late Edward K. and Eva (L'Heureux) Lange. After graduating from Roger Williams Hospital School of Nursing, Spencer worked at Roger Williams Hospital. She then graduated from Columbia Graduate School of Nursing and worked at the New York State Psychiatric Institute. Former Council President Ed Cooney Passes Away

An active member of the community, Edward Cooney passed away this week at the age of 65.

The following information was provided by Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home. Former president of the North Kingstown Town Council and active member of the community Edward Cooney passed away Wednesday, March 20 at his home. He was 65 years old. Cooney served on the North Kingstown Town Council from 2004 to 2008. He was a member and past chairman of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, past chairman of Kent Hospital, trustee of Care New England and founder and chairman of Engage RI. He was the past president of the Wickford Little League and was head coach of the Ireland National Baseball Team in 2002. Florence Hugues of North Kingstown passed away last week at the age of 83.

The following obituary was provided by Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home. Florence M. Hugues of North Kingstown passed away Wednesday, Feb. 27. She was 83 years old. She was wife of the late Talton G. Hugues for 53 years. Born in Uniondale on Long Island, NY, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Ethel (Arnold) Marino. Hugues was a self-employed house cleaner before retiring. She enjoyed crocheting and counted cross stitching. She leaves behind her husband of 58 years, David L. Towne. Born in Dover Township, MI, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Wright and Maggie Cornell, and the step-daughter of the late Earl Cornell. Towne was a school bus aide for the Town of North Kingstown. She was a former Sunday school teacher in Adrian, MI. He leaves behind his wife, Jeannette A. (Lawson) Myette. Doris Moon of North Kingstown passed away this week at the age of 88.

She was the wife of the late Frank O. Moon. Mon worked at Stanley Bostitch for many years before retiring. She was honorary member emerita of the Old Time Fiddlers Club of RI.
