Check Out Our New Facebook Cover Photo

You voted, so here's who won!

After last month's contest to help North Kingstown Patch find a new cover photo for our Facebook page, and with the new month starting today and all, we've decided to unveil the winner. We received many amazing submissions, many of which made us happy to call North Kingstown home. We received so many great photos that we asked our readers to help us pick a frontrunner. After much debate, we've chosen our winner: Congratulations to Ted Green for his wintry photo of Wickford Village! We'll keep Ted's picture up on our Facebook page until the end of the month.  Because we had so many great photos, many readers suggested we rotate. And we couldn't agree more! So, Ted's photo will hold court until the end of this month. Help us pick a photo …

Deadline to Vote on Facebook Privacy Changes Ends Monday

Facebook users have seven days to vote for or against new site governance and privacy policy changes.

This week may be your last opportunity to vote on proposed privacy changes on Facebook. The social media site has opened up polls for users to vote on a number of policy updates to the site's Statement of Rights and Responsibilities and Data Use Policy. Among those changes would be the abolition of users option to vote on changes in favor of a question-submission and webcasts. Voting opened Tuesday and will end on Monday, Dec. 10. Thirty percent of Facebook's population would need to vote against the changes to stop them from passing. The poll closes at 3 p.m. on Dec. 10. So what changes are being proposed? According to TechCrunch, the changes boil down to four updates: In the past, Facebook users have been able to vote in support or …

Five Things To Know Today

5 Things: Planning Meeting, Politics & Facebook

Five things to know for July 30.

1.  The North Kingstown Town Council meets tonight, kicking things off with a joint meeting with the planning commission. Both bodies will discuss water and planning for future developments, town's comprehensive plan and a scope of work for a visioning process for the Route 2 and 102 intersection. Meeting starts at 6 p.m. at Beechwood Center. 2.  Head over to Wickford tomorrow night for another installment of the 2012 Summer Concert Series. Tomorrow night, Sh Bop starts up at 7 p.m. Please bring seating. 3.  My friend Lauren Costa, editor of Coventry Patch, has more than 1,000 fans on Coventry Patch's Facebook page. I find it unacceptable that North Kingstown only has 740. If you haven't already, "like" North Kingstown Patch's Facebook …

Web-based meetings, openness for the town. Replaced Halley and that bad admin with much better. Whistleblower Law put on books in NK, several years of school budget austerity, better school financial policies, Station Five reopened in Slocum, reducing EMT/Fire responses from 20 mins to 5mins. After forming a 21 member stakeholder group, RESTORED K-5 SCHOOLS. Good things happen when we vote in the…   more ›

Create Our Facebook Cover Photo!

Have a great photo, painting or drawing that you think will be a perfect cover photo for our Facebook page?

Many are up in arms over the social media schism that is the Facebook timeline. Whether you like it or hate it, Facebook's changing over to this new layout...including North Kingstown Patch's page, starting March 30. Instead of throwing a tantrum and starting a Facebook page to petition this, we've decided to use one of timeline's features to highlight North Kingstown's artistic talent. How, you ask? From now until March 29, we'll be accepting North Kingstown's submissions for a cover photo for us to use on NK Patch's Facebook page. Whether its a photo of Wickford Village at sunset, a painting of the ducks at nearby Beach Rose Cafe or even folks chowing down at the Oak Hill Tavern for Wacky Wing Wednesday, we're looking for pieces of art …

You Know You're From North Kingstown If...

Two Facebook groups are bringing North Kingstown residents together to reminisce.

I was at dinner with some folks last week when one of my friends started howling with laughter. “I totally forgot about that place,” he laughed. “This is fantastic.” My friend, who grew up in Warwick, had stumbled upon the “You Know You’re From Warwick…” Facebook group. For the next hour, he was completely engrossed in reading dozens and dozens of posts about Rocky Point, Ann & Hope, etc. He was having a blast and I was angry that I wasn’t. A North Kingstown resident since I was three years old, I was determined to find a North Kingstown version. Then, thanks to the wonderful people who follow North Kingstown Patch’s Facebook page, I found not one but two Facebook groups dedicated to those who grew up in North Kingstown – “You Know You’re …

These are pretty neat websites. Being from East Providence, there are actually two, one for the center of EP and one for Riverside. It's amazing what they put on the site but it does allow you to remember when. It's almost like a constant reunion going on.   more ›
