Investigative report Jim Hummel reports on the recently instituted 24-hour for the North Kingstown Fire Department.
The controversial 24-hour work shifts for North Kingstown firefighters just got the Hummel Report treatment. Investigative reporter Jim Hummel, formerly of ABC6-TV, has produced an in-depth piece on the North Kingstown Fire Department's new work schedule which was passed by the North Kingstown Town Council in January by a 3-2 vote. The decision moved firefighters from 10- and 14-hour shifts to a 24-hour shift, reduced the number of platoons from four to three and added 14 hours to firefighters' weekly schedules. We've tallied up the votes and have a final grade for Councilor Chuck Brennan.
It's report card time. What grade did North Kingstown Town Councilor Chuck Brennan receive from his constituents for his performance as a member of the council for the past two years. According to voters and our grading formula, Brennan ranked in the B+ category. Nearly half of those who voted gave the town councilor an A. A third of the votes were in the B category with the remaining evenly spread through the C through F category. Earlier this summer, Brennan announce he would not be seeking reelection, however. Recently, he has spoken out against the 24-hour shift for the fire department – which he and fellow councilor Michael Betswick voted against in January. Check back later this week for another installment of Report Card.

For this "Report Card," we're asking North Kingstown's constituents to do the grading. In our poll below, we have grades ranging from A to F. (Sorry, no B+ or C- grades in this poll.) We'll tally up the votes and, using a calculation, will determine a final grade for each politician. This week, we're grading Town Councilor Chuck Brennan to start things …
