When it comes to sandwiches, where do North Kingstowners go?
Ham and cheese. Grille cheese. Cuban paninis. Reubens. When it comes to sandwiches, which North Kingstown eatery reigns supreme? Despite a late addition (Thanks to Allen Gammons for pointing out our oversight), Beach Rose Cafe killed this week's Readers' Choice poll as the best place to grab a sandwich in town. With 25 percent of the vote, Beach Rose beat out fellow Wickford neighbors The Place (13 percent) and Jitters Cafe (10 percent). As one Facebook user said, "Beach Rose Cafe is my favorite." Congratulations to everyone! Check back for our next Readers' Choice poll on Monday where we'll be asking readers' who their favorite florist is.

Maddie Healey's former coworkers remember her smile and dedicated worth ethic.
Regulars at Beach Rose Café can still get their morning coffee and sandwiches at the Wickford storefront, but there is one thing they won’t be able to get each morning – that signature, day-brightening smile from beloved employee Madeline “Maddie” Healey. "Customers say they'd count on Maddie's smile to fix a bad mood," said owner Tim Sharp. Healey passed away Feb. 19 along with her friend Michael Ruggieri following an early morning accident in East Greenwich. When Sharp heard the news Sunday morning, his initial instinct was to close the café for the day. The typically small staff, even smaller during the winter, is close knit and news that a member of the close-knit work family had passed away would surely be a blow. But, the café …

Locals came out in droves to support the North Kingstown Food Pantry and feast on a spaghetti dinner.
Droves of spaghetti-loving locals came out Tuesday night to support the North Kingstown Food Pantry – and feast on a delicious spaghetti dinner, of course. It's the second food pantry fundraiser for Tim and Jamie Sharp of Beach Rose Cafe who put on 4Hours 4Hunger in October 2010 – a cocktail party of sorts that featured raffle items from Wickford merchants. Just like 4Hours 4 Hunger, the idea for the spaghetti dinner began while Beach Rose Cafe regulars enjoyed their morning joe at the cafe. The Sharps, North Kingstown Harbormaster Ed Hughes, Arthur Hardman and Rev. Patrick Greene of St. Paul's began discussing the event back in November. Coordinating with food pantry director Bonnie Smith, who also is a Sunday school teacher at St. Paul'…

With the holidays upon us, make sure you add Wickford to your Christmas list.
If you have walked through Wickford lately, or have been keeping up to date on Patch, you have probably noticed the town is preparing for the Festival of Lights. The celebration, which is coming up this weekend, is a great way to get into the Christmas spirit. Strolling down Brown Street at night amidst all the lights and carolers helps transform a picturesque New England village into a winter wonderland. I would like to applaud the town's efforts in donating $7,000 toward the festival, easing the burden from small businesses in Wickford that normally split the costs. As someone who had spent years at the Festival of Lights selling Christmas wreaths to raise money for Boy Scout Troop 152, it is awesome to see that the festival will still …
