Bank Robbery Suspect Caught

The suspect was caught Wednesday evening.

  A man suspected of robbing the North Kingstown Bank Newport on Wednesday afternoon has been taken into custody following a joint effort from the North Kingstown and East Greenwich police departments. According to a press release, North Kingstown detectives were able to deduce that Thomas N. Shellman of 30 Lang Drive in North Kingstown was the person who carried out the robbery at Bank Newport. Shellman allegedly entered the bank around 2 p.m. Wednesday and handed the teller a note demanding money. The teller (who was older than 60 years old, according to reports) complied and Shellman allegedly fled the scene toward Ten Rod Road. Police Searching For Suspect in NK Bank Newport Robbery

A white man reportedly robbed the Bank Newport on Ten Rod Road.

The North Kingstown Police Department is searching for a suspect who robbed the Bank Newport in North Kingstown. According to a release from the NKPD, the man entered the bank – located in the Stop & Shop plaza off Ten Rod Road – around 2 p.m. and handed the teller a note demanding money. No weapon was shown.  After the teller complied with his demands, the man reportedly fled the bank in a northerly direction toward Ten Rod Road. He is described as around a white man around 5'10", medium build, unshaven and wearing a gray knit winter cap and dark full length overcoat.
