Former Council President Ed Cooney Passes Away

An active member of the community, Edward Cooney passed away this week at the age of 65.

The following information was provided by Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home. Former president of the North Kingstown Town Council and active member of the community Edward Cooney passed away Wednesday, March 20 at his home. He was 65 years old. Cooney served on the North Kingstown Town Council from 2004 to 2008. He was a member and past chairman of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, past chairman of Kent Hospital, trustee of Care New England and founder and chairman of Engage RI. He was the past president of the Wickford Little League and was head coach of the Ireland National Baseball Team in 2002. One of his greatest joys was coaching the youth of North Kingstown in soccer and baseball. He served three terms as president of the Point …

Heritage Homes Founder Paul Lischio Passes Away

The namesake of NK's Lischio Field and founder of Heritage Homes has passed away.

The following obituary was provided by Nardolillo Funeral Home. Paul Francis Lischio of West Palm Beach, FL and Saunderstown, RI passed away at home on March 16. He was 88 years old. He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Marguerite Mansolillo Lischio. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Erasmo and Angela (Pagano) Lischio. He was the brother of Erasmo Lischio, Jr., Frederick Lischio, Mary Geitz, Rita Vargas and the late Ralph Lischio and Michele Lischio. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Paula Schick, her husband Frederick and daughter Lynn Moran and her husband Steven. Obituary: William P. McKiernan, 91

An avid gardener, Bill loved flowers, music, opera, and art, but also volunteered for a number of charities helping those less fortunate.

William P. McKiernan, 91, of Quidnessett in North Kingstown passed away March 16. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late John F. and Loretta (Mulvey) McKiernan.  He is survived by several nieces and nephews and several great and great-great nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late John, Loretta, James, Lawrence, Edward, and Joseph McKiernan, and Margaret Sherman, Mary Flanagan and Rita Mathos. Mr. McKiernan graduated from Classical High School in 1940. He received a Bachelors Degree from Providence College, and his Masters from Catholic University of America. She was 91 years old. She was the wife of the late James Stewart, Jr. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Raymond P. Caldwell and Gladys (Tillinghast) Caldwell.  Stewart was a secretary for the Slocum Agency and the State of Rhode Island for many years until her retirement. Hugues was a self-employed house cleaner before retiring. She enjoyed crocheting and counted cross stitching. A former school bus aide and volunteer at the Pet Refuge passed away this week at the age of 80.

The following obituary was provided by Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home. Irene E. Towne, formerly Wright, of North Kingstown passed away Thursday, Feb. 21 at her home. She was 80 years old. She leaves behind her husband of 58 years, David L. Towne. Born in Dover Township, MI, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Wright and Maggie Cornell, and the step-daughter of the late Earl Cornell. Towne was a school bus aide for the Town of North Kingstown. She was a former Sunday school teacher in Adrian, MI. He was 65 years old.  He was the beloved husband of June L. (Bowers) Tourgee for 44 years. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Adrian J. Tourgee and Julia G.
