I'm a native New Mexican and am pretty snobby when it comes to Mexican food, so I'm happy to say that I loved Trini's tacos! It's great to have authentic food here in RI, and even some New Mexican food (the sopapillas are New Mexican, and I've never seen them on a menu outside of NM.....I highly recommend them for your dessert!).
They use flour tortillas that aren't mass manufactured, but rather are a homemade style that makes all the difference in the world. Even though the menu is small, all the food is fantastic.
Also, the salsa they give out is pretty mild, but you can ask for a kicked up version (for spice lovers only - it was fairly hot) that is out of this world! (And the chili that came with the tacos was even better!)
We also tried the "El Jeffe" taco which has mashed potatoes instead of a meat - sounds totally strange I know but they were DELICIOUS! Ask them how they came up with the recipe...it's a cute story.
The owners are super nice - a mother-daughter pair from El Paso, TX. They did a great job remaking the space and creating a fun and intimate eating atmosphere.
We are ready to become regulars!
