Monday Essentials: Dog Park Opens, Chicken & Livestock Zoning Reviewed

Kayla Jean Ricci Dog Park dedication: The Town of North Kingstown has a dog park! A collaboration between the Town, the NK Animal Shelter, and the Kayla Jean Ricci Memorial Foundation, the park is at Allen Harbor. It will be dedicated today at 10 a.m.

Planning Commission meeting: On the agenda (which you’ll find here) is discussions of two zoning ordinances – accessory dwelling units and keeping chickens and livestock. The meeting takes place at Town Hall at 7:30 p.m.

Screening of “Pink Ribbon Inc.”: Are pink ribbons really about the cure, or about corporate profits? That’s the question asked by the documentary “Pink Ribbons Inc.,” which will be shown at The Hive in the Lafayette Mills Wednesday at 6 p.m. There will be refreshments and conversation. All are welcome. It's free!

Love Medicine, An Indigenous Perspective: NK Free Library hosts Dawn Dove, Narragansett elder, oral historian, author and educator will moderate a panel of four indigenous representatives who will discuss their perspectives on the themes of Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich and how the themes connect to their communities. The library is partnering with the Tomaquag Museum in presenting this year’s Big Read, Erdrich’s Love Medicine. In November the Thursday Book Group will read and discuss the book. The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.

Wickford Plan meeting: This panel meets from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Not sure where they meet, but I’ll find out! I’m thinking Town Hall.

On Friday …

Art Opening at Coastal Living Gallery: Sculptor Tiffany Adams and painter Susan Strauss are exhibiting their work during the month of October at the Coastal Living Gallery, 83 Brown St. Friday is the Artists’ Reception from 6 to 9 p.m.

On Saturday …

Harvest Fest at Smith’s Castle: The Castle will come alive at our Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 19 (rain date Sunday, Oct. 20) noon to 4 p.m., like it was "back in the day." Children and adults can enjoy food, music, and vendors. Farmers and Master Gardeners will be on hand to offer advice.
