Recycle Your Christmas Tree: Live Christmas trees can be recycled at the Transfer Station (345 Devils Foot Road) free of charge through Jan. 25. Trees must be free of all decorations and removed from bag used to transport prior to disposal. After January 25, regular disposal rates will apply.

‘Forks Over Knives’: Willett Free Library is showing the film “Forks Over Knives,” which examines the benefits of a plant-based diet. After the movie, there’s a Q&A with plant-based lifestyle expert Micaela Karlsen, who has a MSPH in human nutrition from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a BA in Psychology from Cornell University. Micaela founded and administrates the website www.PlantBasedResearch.org. 45 Ferry Road, Saunderstown. Plant-based soups served at 6 p.m., movie at 6:30, and the Q&A following. Free. On Wednesday …

Alaska w/o a Cruise Ship: North Kingstown resident Howard Brown and a traveling companion took a two-week trip to Alaska in August 2013. They avoided the popular cruise-ship travel and opted instead for ferries, rail, small planes, car rentals, boats and buses. They concluded that this allowed them to see the “real Alaska.” This slideshow reflects their sail up the Inland Passage, and visits to Skagway, Glacier Bay, Juneau and Denali National Park.
