Watch Beisel Go For Gold at Olympic Viewing Party

The NKHS Swim Team is hosting an Olympic viewing party to watch Elizabeth Beisel compete on Saturday.

 

Saunderstown’s Elizabeth Beisel will be . Though the 19-year-old will be competing across the pond in London, her hometown is putting on an Olympic viewing party to watch her compete on the world stage.

The North Kingstown Swim Team is hosting the event on Saturday, July 28 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the cafeteria Beisel’s alma mater – . Beisel, a 2010 graduate of NKHS, is scheduled to swim in the 400-meter individual medley – – at around 2:20 p.m. (The start time can change by 30 minutes either way, so plan accordingly.)

The idea was the brainchild of North Kingstown High School student Bryan Flanagan – current co-captain of the NKHS Swim Team. Flanagan said he came up with the idea after Beisel made the U.S. Olympic team last month during qualifying and following the success of the  to raise money for the NK Food Pantry and help send the Beisel family to London.

“We wanted to have it at her old high school and have her old swim team sponsor it,” said Flanagan. “We’re hoping to get the whole town to join.”

The race will be streaming live on two big screens in the cafeteria, which will be decked out in Olympic décor. The swim team will be selling baked goods and beverages during the event. Proceeds from the event will benefit the NKHS Swim Team and the Rhode Island Interscholastic League to benefit swimming programs throughout the state.

In addition to the high school, view parties will also be held at in North Kingstown and Twin Willows in Narragansett.
