Nearing End Of Fall Sports Season – An NKHS Sports Report

From the NKHS Athletic Department

The fall season is rapidly coming to a close. As the talk around school begins to include more basketball and less soccer there seems to be a natural change to the season. Shortly our sports interests will turn indoors for the winter and if this year is anything like the last we are in for a great ride. However keep in mind, until Thanksgiving we still have a strong football program which will not wrap up their season until we sit and give thanks for another great start to an exciting school year here at NKHS. GO SKIPPERS!

Soccer (Boys)

The boys certainly showed up for the D-1 State Championship. These guys played a hard fought game to the very end. This squad battled throughout the game and only gave up a single goal in the last couple of minutes. Unfortunately, that one goal was enough to give LaSalle the victory. This team was a force all year long and should be extremely proud of their accomplishments. Congratulations Boys!

Soccer (Girls)

The girl’s season ended a couple of weeks ago but we recently received some good news. Congratulations go out to Sarah Andrews who was awarded the Rhode Island Interscholastic League’s Student of the Month award for South County. This is a special award because it includes more than the recipient’s soccer abilities. This award includes academics, community service, and school/community involvement. Nice job Sarah.

Football

The boys finished their regular season schedule on a positive note.  In only their second season under the current coaching staff this team has finished league play tied for first place. On Nov. 8, we spotted a touchdown to Shea then rallied to get the 25-14 win, then on Nov. 15, we beat Warwick Vets 40-6. That leaves us with a 5-2 record in D-II and in a five-way tie for first place. These guys continue to work hard and their hard work has paid off. From here it is on to the Thanksgiving Day Turkey Bowl at URI. Good luck guys!
