Elizabeth Beisel is heading back to the pool on Thursday in her second event during these Summer Olympics in London. North Kingstown native Beisel looks to compete in the 200-meter backstroke Thursday.
She's set to swim in the third of five preliminary heats, scheduled at 6:40 a.m. If she advances, she'll compete in the semifinals Thursday afternoon at around 3 p.m. Finals for this event are scheduled for Friday at 2:30 p.m.
Unlike her first Olympic event this year – the 400-meter individual medley – Beisel is not the favorite to take home the gold in the 200-meter backstroke. That honor goes to 17-year-old Missy Franklin, who has already nabbed a three medals in this year's Games – a bronze in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay, a gold in the 4x200-meter freestyle relay and an individual gold for the 100-meter backstroke.
