Patch Picks: Scholarships For High School Seniors

Congratulations NKHS seniors: you only have a few more months of school left! But, for those of you venturing on to higher education, this added freedom comes at a price....typically ranging from a few thousand to a few hundred thousand dollars.

Parents, don't panic...yet. We've compiled a list of some great scholarships, courtesy of the NKHS Guidance Department, that may pique your interest.

Because we know you have a bazillion dates and times streaming through your head, we put them in the order of their deadlines.

1. Ocean State Soccer Scholarship: A $500 scholarship open to all current/former members of OSSS. Deadline is April 4.
2. Coventry Credit Union: Applicant or immediate family member must be a member of Coventry Credit Union. Deadline is April 8.
3. Jamestown Community Chorus: A $500 scholarship for applicants active in the Jamestown music community. Deadline is April 9.
4. Andrew Hoban Memorial: A $2,000 schoalrship awarded to a senior who participated in athletics and was involved in community service. Preference is given to students planning to attend the University of Rhode Island. Deadline is April 15.
5. Allie S. Goulet Scholarship: Applicant must be furthering education in either a two- or four-year degree program in business. Deadline is April 15.
6. Thomas M. Cabral Memorial: Applicant must have an immediate family member in law enforcement (active, retired or other) who is enrolling int he field of criminal justice. Must live in Newport County (Jamestown) with a 2.5 GPA or higher. Deadline is April 29.
7. North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce Charitable Foundation: Applicant must write an essay and be continuing his/her education at a two- or four-year college or university. Deadline is May 3.
8. North Kingstown Lions Club: Applicant must be a senior and planning to attend a four-year college and answer the essay question.
