NK's Dolan Wins Award for Italian Study

Erin Dolan, a senior from North Kingstown and student at Bay View Academy, earned the Rhode Island Teachers of Italian 2014 Advisory Board Monetary Award for Italian IV, with a cash prize of $300

Erin Dolan, a senior from North Kingstown and student at Bay View Academy, earned the Rhode Island Teachers of Italian 2014 Advisory Board Monetary Award for Italian IV, with a cash prize of $300. 

This is award is given every year to only one Italian IV or V student and is chosen based on student submitted essays on the topic, “How will the Italian language continue to be a part of my future?” Erin is also a recipient of the Luigi Petrarca Book Award, which is given to five high school students who have maintained an A or A+ average in Italian studies.

Bay View also announced a group of other awards and recognitions for the study of Italian. Bay View Academy’s World Languages teacher, Graziella Giampaoli, said she is proud to have eight Bay View students achieve local and national awards for their accomplishments in the study of the Italian language. The awards are being given by the Rhode Island Teachers of Italian (RITI) and the American Association of Teachers of Italian (AATI). Six of these students earned high ranking on the National Italian exam, including Honorable Mentions for scoring in the top fifteen nationally (see list below).

2014 RITI Renaissance Alliance Lodge OSIA Outstanding Merit Award, Italian III. Camilla Macera, a sophomore from Hope, RI, will receive $100.This award is presented to high school and college students who demonstrate excelling in the study of the Italian language and culture during an oral interview, conducted in Italian. Only three high school and one college student were selected in Rhode Island. Camilla also took first place in Rhode Island and sixth place nationally for her results on the National Italian Exam (in Level 3B).

Every year the Grand Lodge of Rhode Island gives out the Annual Award for the Study of the Italian Language. This year Bay View’s winners are Azzurra Catucci (senior from Pawtucket) and Chloe Michalopoulos (eighth grader from Coventry, RI). These students will receive certificates and checks for $50 at a reception in June at the Luce Moderna Lodge in East Providence. Azzurra also placed fifth in Rhode Island and tenth nationally on the National Italian Exam (Level 4B).

Bay View’s National Italian Exam award winners are as follows:

Madeline Brannon, freshman from Warwick, RI, Level 2A, 4th place in Rhode Island and 13th place nationally.

Marcella Mazzenga, junior from Cranston, RI, Level 3A, 1st place in Rhode Island and 9th place nationally.

Camilla Macera, sophomore from Hope, RI, Level 3B, 1st place in Rhode Island and 6th place nationally.

Olivia Hewitt, junior from Providence, Level 3B, 4th place in Rhode Island and 14th place nationally.

Isabella Millard, junior from Providence, Level 3B, 7th place in Rhode Island and 14th place nationally.

Azzurra Catucci, senior from Pawtucket, RI, Level 4B, 5th place in Rhode Island and 10th place nationally.
