NK Student Wins Creative Writing Award

Kathleen Radigan of The Prout School was named one of 15 winners of a national creative writing award.

 

An 18-year-old student from North Kingstown has been named one of 15 winners of a national award honoring creative achievements.

Kathleen Radigan, a senior at The Prout School, has received the Portfolio Gold Award from The Scholastic Art & Writing, which includes a $10,000 scholarship. Radigan, 18, won for her work in the "writing portfolio" category.

The Alliance for Young Artists (which administers the awards) received more than 230,000 submissions this year in 28 categories, ranging from humor to dramatic script to science fiction to sculpture and more. Each submission was judged on their originality, technical skill and how well they displayed their personal vision or voice.

"Girls" creator Lena Dunham, actor Robert Redford and artist Andy Warhol are all previous winners of the awards.
