Community Delighted By This Year's Variety Show

The high school auditorium was the place to be Friday night for the 2011 North Kingstown High School Variety Show.

An enthusiastic crowd of several hundred people turned out for a talent show in support of Ali Chabot and her North Kingstown senior class project in the auditorium Friday night.

Master of Ceremony Devin Callahan, along with Colleen Fogg, Matt Brunelle and Alex Kuczmarski, opened the night with a comic routine that continued between every act throughout the night and kept the audience laughing.

Act l consisted of 10 performances. Lizzi Miceli and Sydney Pazera performed an acoustic version of "White Horses" followed by Mikaela dancing "The Garden." Helen and Zack did a great job with "Dream a Little Dream of Me."

Hannah Comstock had the crowd on their feet with “Falling Faith,” an original song. She sang and played the acoustic guitar.

Minor Problem sang “Viva La Grace Kelly,” followed up by Matt Ferri and Jakob Horstman doing Eminem’s "Lose Yourself." Closing the first act was Jack Clark with a hysterical version of "Napolean," a comedic interpretation of the popular film "Napoleon Dynamite."

While the audience took a short break to check their messages and stretch their legs, Patch caught up with Chabot, the variety show's coordinator.

“The talent show is an all student-operated presentation,” she said.

Chabot went on to thank everyone who volunteered there time to help. A special thank you went out to Mrs. Walsh, Mrs. McDonald and Mrs. Silveria for taking on the challenge and helping when they didn’t have to.

Chabot also thanked the students who ran the behind-the-scenes action and sent a very special thank you to the custodians. She said the show couldn’t have been possible without their help.

Back stage the students were organized, moving quickly to change up the acts and provide the audience with some fabulous entertainment.

Act ll started with a bang when Sydney Keen (Serria Leone) and Shawna Ostiguy sang "Taking Chances" with Kaiya DiPippo, who put on a perfect performance.

On “Remedy,” Jesse-Ray Leich played the drums with Jack Petit on vocals and bass, accompanied by Ben Petit on Guitar. Next up was “Super Mello” with Alex Kuczmarski, Matt Brunelle, Steve Chevalier, Evan Bolton and Zach Seites.

Maddie Grimaldi performed "Sunday Morning," and Nick Sylvestre, Gagriel Boyles, John Ragland, Steve Chevalier and Jess Parente performed "Afternoon Delight."

The auditorium roared when Shelby Grenier, Maddie Grimaldi and Jackie Moroney danced to “Look at Me Now.”

An acoustic performance from Sam Lancaster and Alisa Petrie, "Skinny Love," was followed up by Scarlet Hernandez with her performance of "Jar of Hearts."

Steve Martin and Sam Finneran did a funny man performance with a Modern Adaptation. Ali Chabot and Kai Colucci did a fantastic performance of Sara Bareilles’ “Gravity.” The second act came to a close with Kai Colucci and Jesse-Ray battling it out on the drums.

The show ended with the entire cast dancing in a circle around the stage, while the auditorium filled with applause and laughter.
