The Sewers Are Coming! The Sewers Are Coming!

Phase one of the long-awaited sewer project is set to start in a matter of weeks.

North Kingstown, prepare to see heavy machinery and road closures in your future. The long-awaited project bringing sewers to town is set to start as early as next week.

According to Director of Public Works Phil Bergeron, the town and sewer contractor will meet on Wednesday to finale the construction schedule for phase one of the project. The preliminary construction calendar starts with the Camp Avenue portion, stretching from Post Road to Asqah where the lines tie in to the treatment center in Quonset.

This first portion of the project could start as early as next week. The town is aiming to finish this section of town before school begins in the fall. Road closures are expected intermittently in this area, though the gate into Quonset will be open to offer alternate routes in and out of the neighborhood.

Following the Camp Avenue project, construction will start on Post Road from Camp down to Dana Drive (next to the ) in September. During this time, Post Road will be reduced to two lanes of traffic as crews install the sewers in the road’s two center lanes.

“People should expect delays,” said Bergeron. “No question about it.”

In the best case scenario, phase one will be completed by the end of the calendar year, added Bergeron. If not, the project should be finished early next summer.

Phase two of the sewer project will include Post Road from Dana Drive down to the . It’s currently in the design phase.

In anticipation of the impact on businesses along Post Road, the is hosting a “Talk With The Town” information session (7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25 at ) for area businesses. The presentation will include updates on the project and information on traffic, time frame, detour directions, and assessment and connection information.
