NK Has Learned To Live With Wind Turbine, Says Dolan

The Town Council president talks to the Westerly Sun.

With Charlestown dealing with the prospect of wind turbines, the Westerly Sun interviewed Town Council President Liz Dolan about NK's experience with wind turbines.

The 413-foot wind turbine just off Ten Rod Road near Wickford Junction (developed by Wind Energy Development LLC) generated much opposition but was completed last September.

“There was a lot of outcry,” Dolan told David Pepin of the Westerly Sun. “The public perception was one of general dread.”

According to Dolan, she and other council members visited wind turbines in Falmouth, Mass. "Our noise meters didn’t exceed 50 decibels,” she told the Westerly Sun.

Dolan said homeowners in the area were getting a discount on their electrical bills as a result of the turbine. Nonetheless, with another wind turbine being planned for Stamp Farm, the Town Council approved a moratorium in 2011 on wind turbines pending state guidelines.
