NK GOP Endorses Candidates, Old & New

The Town Republican Committee throws its support to a crop of old and new candidates.

The North Kingstown Republican Town Committee has endorsed a crop of candidates for town council and school committee in the upcoming November elections.

With all five council members’ terms expiring this November, the NK GOP is endorsing sitting members Elizabeth Dolan (currently serving as the council president) and Carol Hueston, who have both been on the council since 2008. Joining them on the GOP’s endorsement list are Kerry McKay (whose family runs ), Mark Hawkins (owner of Rolling Greens Golf Course) and Brent Cleaveland.

In a press release, the NK GOP Committee Chair Jim McGuire said that the group agrees that the town must embrace “business friendly principles.” The group as a whole also looks to focus on revitalizing the struggling Post Road Corridor.

Fellow Republican Charlie Stamm, who has served on the council since 2008 alongside Dolan and Hueston, will not be seeking re-election. (Check back later for our story on this.)

On the school side, the committee is throwing its support to two newcomers – Cheryl Clarkin and Robert “Bob” Jones. According to the release, both aspirants are “committed to fiscally prudent operation strategies” and hope to continue strengthening cooperation between the committee and town council.
