NE Independent: Lawyer Seeks Media Ban In Fry Murder Case

The lawyer for Kimberly Fry, a North Kingstown woman accused of strangling her eight-year-old daughter, is seeking to ban all cameras and recording devices during the September trial.

The lawyer for Kimberly Fry, the North Kingstown woman accused of strangling her eight-year-old daughter, is requesting that all cameras and recording devices be banned from the courtroom for next month's trial, the North East Independent reports.

Public defender Sarah Wright, in a request to Superior Court Judge William E. Carnes Jr., cites that having cameras in the courtroom would be a distraction to jurors and be "unduly prejudicial" to Fry. According to Wright, due to the "highly emotional" and "graphic and disturbing" that will be brought forth in the trial, Fry is "extremely concerned about the devatating effect widespread media coverage of this trial would have" on herself, her husband's family and the community

On Aug. 12, 2009, Fry was arrested and charged with one count of first-degree murder after allegedly strangling her daughter at their home on Ricci Lane. According to reports, Fry told police her daughter Camden was screaming, kicking and biting her and would not take a bath. Last fall, , which If convicted, Fry would face a life sentence.
