Other facts

I have spent the last two years representing the Wickford Highlands Homeowners Assoc. on town issues that affect our neighborhood, the West End community, and the town in general.

I looked at the website that you have. I have a few questions. 1) how many big box store sites are in town now? 2) how do you propose to work together with the firefighters? 3) you say that you have lived in town for 18 years but for the first 16 had no interest in town hall issues, why?

highflyer, great questions. I have to say from my own experience that I also was only paying attention to the "big" races, like president and governor until I woke up. In fact it was Dr Camarra's NKTO tax hike and budget flyer mailing that got me interested. I think we all should spend a number of years very involved in local affairs them let someone else have a turn. kind of like serving in the military. sorry not trying to hijack your post and looking forward to his answers.

I believe it is 10 Big Box stores/sites. The PC is reviewing one for Frenchtown Road, half in EG and half in NK. At first, we were only getting the parking lot because of the Big Box ban. In later plans, NK gets the building and EG gets the parking, or the building straddles the town line. I think the Frenchtown site makes perfect sense since the area has several already. It will more than likely go in, so we might as well be the town collecting the revenues. I would be careful placing them elsewhere in town. NK citizens requested the ban, and the majority were still in favor during the last Comp Plan rewrite. I feel eliminating the ban should be openly discussed with NK residents and have their approval. I spoke at length to one firefighter while out canvassing. Great talk. I did hear there are new recruits in training and positions are being filled, (one of my immediate concerns). I currently feel both sides need to finish this in arbitration. I already made plans to talk to key players this week to fully understand this issue, however; I would hope that both sides can come to an agreement before the election. It’s not that I had no interest, but was not as involved. I attended meetings on water, traffic, and school issues, the proposed Shaw’s, Stony Lane playground, and ThiNK; typically 1 or 2 meetings each. The last 2 yrs. heavily involved representing neighborhoods on 2 much larger issues, and nobody in town listens! That’s why I’m running.
