Five Things: The Driftwoods & Planning

Your guide for life in North Kingstown today, July 16.

Weather: Yesterday was beautiful – that blue sky and those puffy clouds – but really hot. Today looks to be the same. The ocean beaches, a pool, or an afternoon matinee are your best bets. Got any other great ideas for beating the heat? Leave them in the comments section, please!

Planning Commission meeting: The meeting takes place at 7:30 at Town Hall. Click here to read the agenda.

Tuesday Summer Concerts: The Driftwoods will be playing at the water’s edge in Wickford tonight at 7, behind 55 Brown Street. For a list of all the upcoming summer concerts, check out the NK Arts Council website here.

Save the Bay Swim: I’m going to be swimming the Bay on Saturday and I wanted to connect with NK swimmers, kayakers or volunteers so maybe we could arrange a photo before or after the swim. If you are participating, shoot me an email (elizabeth.mcnamara@patch.com). If by chance you are interested in donating, you can support me in my swim here. Thanks.

Economic Development Advisory Board meeting: This group meets at the NK Chamber of Commerce at 5:30 p.m.

Using Facebook for business: The number of small businesses using Facebook grew from 13 million to 16 million in the first quarter of 2013. If you need some help getting your business on Facebook, this free workshop at RI Small Business Recovery Center in Warwick is a good place to start. They will cover the various types of Facebook pages you can choose, how to begin building and retaining an audience and the basics of Facebook ads.
