NK, Statewide Unions Protest Outside School Offices

North Kingstown custodians and support professionals were joined by numerous other unions across the state on Tuesday evening.

a decision by the North Kingstown School Committee to outsource the department.

In a 5-1 vote last month, the . The decision came after an arbitrator's award for the district's support professionals (Education Support Professionals) did not offer enough in concessions. Committee members Melvoid Benson (the lone dissenting vote) and Bill Mudge (who walked out of the meeting prior to the vote) were present at Tuesday's protest.

Members of ESP, NEA RI, AFL-CIO and other unions spoke against the decision before the crowd, bashing GCA and its reportedly "dubious" track record.

ESP filed a temporary restraining order against the June 25 decision to outsource NK's custodial services. A hearing in judge's chambers is scheduled for Wednesday morning.

To Tired of NK Antics: You know I thought you were a bright person, but I guess your only BOOK smart. These employees do NOT receive TDI benefits if they are sick. They can accrue their sick time up to 90 days in case they were to become very sick. After 21 years 10 wks is not a whole lot of time, especially if you have a debilitating sickness.
Tina Bilodeau July 13, 2012 at 09:47 PM
This just shows how dedicated Tom is to the school that he has worked in for 31 years. He also works year round and obviously has not abused his sick time. This loyalty only went one way, I guess.

Bob Jones is another over-educated Phd. Like the vast majority of Phd's, he thinks he knows more that everyone else. I know him and besides being over-educated, he is friends with Bill Mudge. Very bad combination. Bobo Jones and Mudge.

@Discouraged NK Resident, I never mentioned anything about TDI bennies. All I did was mention the 10 weeks of sick days he lost according to the article in the N.E. Indy. And btw, very few public sector businesses give time off specified as sick days. They give paid personal days, leaving it up to the employee to use them as they see fit. How many paid personal days did the ESP get on top of the sick days?

Hey Tina Not bulling "Just Stating the Facts" as you put it.!! Sorry you don't like the message but you and your union members are not the only ones giving up money and benefits. Do you respect the taxpayers in this town? If you did then you know we are taxed out and are tired of paying benefits we can only dream of in the private sector. DO you really think that everyone is going to agree with your postion? Grow up!
Dark star July 13, 2012 at 10:20 PM
@ Tina, loyalty does not beget loyalty in business. Never did and never will. When a "loyal" employee passes on, his former employer never puts on his tombstone "dedicated employee". Tome gave of himself and that is to be commended. He volunteered his time in the summer. But to expect something in return is unrealistic. Thankfully for him he did not hurt himself while volunteering in the summer. He sounds like a rare breed.
Stephani Weber July 13, 2012 at 11:11 PM
So are you going to reveal just where you got your inaccurate info about me? I would appreciate it if you knew your facts before you attempt to drag my name into things!!! I have had nothing but great things said to me and about me to the teachers I have worked with from parents of my students.
Discouraged NK resident July 13, 2012 at 11:15 PM
The contract is only as good as the people who sign it.. That doesn't say much for the integrity of our SD.....
Tina Bilodeau July 13, 2012 at 11:33 PM
It has nothing to do with the message. You say what you want to say and I say what I want to say. Open discussion! I disagree with attacking others on the blog. Do you think that by making statements like "stop crying" and "grow up" is going to make everyone agree with you? And it is not MY union. And I am taxed out too! And I do respect my fellow taxpayers! Can you have respect for me and the other people on this blog? Or is it "do onto others before thay do onto you?" Get the first shot in?
Tina Bilodeau July 13, 2012 at 11:37 PM
Tom did npt volunteer in the summer, HE IS A YEAR ROUND EMPLOYEE!
Tina Bilodeau July 13, 2012 at 11:39 PM
BTW, At school if one child said to another, "stop crying" or "grow up" it would fall under the category of bullying!
Tina Bilodeau July 13, 2012 at 11:41 PM
I appreciate it.
Reality Bites July 13, 2012 at 11:45 PM
Tina take a look at yoursel!! You are the one bulling cloaking it as "stating the Fact" Yes STOP CRYING AND GROW UP!! Welcome to the big bad world. "Reality does really bite"
Reality Bites July 13, 2012 at 11:49 PM
BTW I don't care if everyone agrees with me but you seem to care you recycle the same "facts". Respect works both ways. Take a look at your blogs!

Geezus Tina, take a deep breath. It is obvious to everyone on here you know WAY more than the rest of us. So why not just kindly educate us when we are in error. You seem to know the exact circumstances of each and every ESP employee. Those of us that aren't as educated on the subject are simply trying to learn and make friends along the way. i wish you would not be so mean and abrupt to others that are obviously less educated than you. IS that how you treat your fellow employees or (gasp) the children when they make an honest mistake? Someone with such deep and profound knowledge on this and many other subjects should avail themselves to public service, or at least your local union as their representative. With every post you expose yourself as a self-righteous, pompous, union sympathizer/union member. It seems you fancy yourself a latter-day Norma Rae. It isn't the 70's.
Dave July 14, 2012 at 12:42 AM
FYI, NONE of your business is who anyone is on the blog. That's the way these blogs work. If that bothers anyone, don't participate. I don't feel anyone is trying to be cruel. But the union is providing a lot of selective facts. Fact is they apparently rejected several offers that didn't involve outsourcing, that weren't a bad deal...they gambled. They stalled for 18 months. Now everyone else is to blame for the breakdown. Taxpayers have little sympathy as they are hard hit, losing houses, having trouble paying bills, dealing with ridiculous co pays ect ect, We are all in the same boat, so let's equalize how we treat public sector with private sector employees. It's the only truly fair way.
NK Taxpayer, too July 14, 2012 at 02:06 AM
Tina & Stephanie, don’t even answer these self-righteous “frat boys” . My take on them is that the people around them roll their eyes every time they voice their opinions. Blogging is their only means of getting their pent up frustrations out. They are rude and so very self-centered. The information that they blog is usually wrong. They probably have never been in our schools and couldn’t care less about the kids. They are over grown adolescents. My Mom said “when a person twists what you say around that’s a sign of a very insecure person”. The ESP took care of my children when I went to work. I knew they were in good hands. That is why I am on your side. It’s about the kids and the ESP group has always stepped to the plate. Don’t even bother with these overgrown adolescents. When I can’t sleep at night, I read their pathetic blogs and it works better than a warm cup of milk. Yawn!
Tina Bilodeau July 14, 2012 at 02:21 AM
Thanks Taoth for the support.
Govstench July 14, 2012 at 03:00 AM
@commonsense - Being a RI governor really has no effect on the outcome. The General Assembly, Fox and Weed, run the show. The governor is just a figurehead - one party rule.
Concerned Resident July 14, 2012 at 12:31 PM
Your take - rolling eyes...... give me a break! Blogging is their......not yours????? They are rude and self-centered......not that this blog revolves around you! Blog is usually wrong.....this from the righteous one! Care less about the kids.....yea that,s what the union is about! Your mommy said......time for you to grow up! Why on your side.....you're another union supporter, yea for the kids! Don't even bother......sounds like you're in charge! Can't sleep at night......wonder the real reason! Warm milk.....same as they give babies and adolescents!
Chris Demers July 15, 2012 at 01:36 PM
Tired of NK antics, and Concerned Resident, In your comments above you Are both happy that public employees and PA had their pay slashed to minimum wage. What kind of a person gets pleasure seeing police, fire, Dpw workers make 7.50 per hour? What kind of person likes to see other people suffer? Lose their home? Lose Dreams of sending kids to college destroyed? Have vehicles repossessed? Oh wait, I know...... Low life scum. You Concerned Resident, and you NK Antics. You both fall into this category. You are both pathetic.
Dark star July 15, 2012 at 02:11 PM
@Chris Demers, I was pleased to see that town trying to gain control back from the thuggish unions. What you union pukes fail to remember is that your salary and benefits comes from taxpayers. Taxpayers are tired of providing benefits greater than they themselves receive. Your unions have taken enough. It is time to get paid what you are worth, not what your union THINKS you are worth. Please save al your "hero" crap for someone else because I a not buying it. Nobody forced you to take the job, it was a choice. All you PUBLIC SERVANTS need to remember what side your bread is buttered on. Clue: it not the union, all they do is take money from you and raise the cost of goods sold. Ever wonder why they continually try to increase membership and/or your dues? To support their inflated lifestyle. Your dues are the unions "profit".

Exactly how does the janitorial staff contribute to Hamilton being a "commended" school? Please Tina tell us how the janitors help make Hamilton one of 26 commended.

@NK: what kind of person "stalks" someone? You're a stalker, by your admission here. I'm very PROUD to support the TEA PARTY. We're Taxed Enough Already here. Maybe the NKPD should be taking notice of you. Stalker.
Paul Marshall July 18, 2012 at 03:10 PM
also remember...NK WATCH is a stalker. He'll come to your house and peep in the windows. read above what he's done it to me! Stalker. (What kind of illness is that?)

Anyone else here sick of all the Firefighter bashing? Wow, lets try and give it a break for a week and enjoy some of the nice hot weather. Maybe get off the computer and enjoy some family time rather than just bashing people.
Concerned Resident July 18, 2012 at 08:24 PM
Posting 3 days after the last post???? FF bashing???? Taxpayers should roll over and take it all????
