Costa Urges Further Study of Park and Ride Sale

Rep. Doreen Costa calls for more study before DOT sells a Park and Ride to CVS.

The following is a press release from the Office of the House Minority Leader.

Rep. Doreen Costa (R - Dist. 31, North Kingstown, Exeter) announced commuters will continue to enjoy free parking at the Park and Ride lot located at the intersection of Routes 102 and 2. The State Properties Committee Tuesday tabled an amended proposal by the Rhode Island Department of Transportation calling for the sale of the current Park and Ride without establishing an alternative location for commuters.

Costa appeared before the committee’s meeting stating her opposition to the DOT proposal which called the sale of the Park and Ride without establishing a new, free commuter parking lot.

“It has always been my goal to have DOT establish a new, free lot for commuters should the current property be sold,” said Costa. “I am pleased that DOT’s amended proposal was not accepted.

Recent reports indicate that CVS is interested in purchasing the property.
