Boscardin to Replace Thompson on School Committee

Republican John Boscardin will fill the unexpired term of fellow Republican Joe Thompson on the North Kingstown School Committee.

won't be left vacant for long. Fellow Republican John Boscardin has accepted the position on the School Committee and will be sworn in at Monday's Town Council meeting, according to Council President Elizabeth Dolan.

On Jan. 4, . Though Thompson intended to step down from the committee later this year, the events of the . Thompson and his wife put their house on Brookhaven Drive home on the market last fall and plan to move to North Carolina to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

By town charter, Thompson's vacant position on the committee would be first filled by the top vote-getter among the unsuccessful candidates in the most recent election – in this case Boscardin. Boscardin finished behind Committee Member Bill Mudge, nabbing 4,592 votes.

Boscardin, 52, is a general contractor and owns a handyman business. He will be sworn in at the beginning of Monday's meeting and sit in on the joint session between the North Kingstown School Committee and North Kingstown Town Council as the two entities discuss IT consolidation. His first full meeting as a school committee member will be the following night on Tuesday as the committee looks to next year's budget.
