Beechwood Senior Center Reopens After Sprinkler Breaks

Town Council meeting postponed from Monday after the burst pipes

Beechwood Senior Center is open for business again after two breaks in the sprinkler system caused repairs.

The fire marshal said because the sprinkler system wasn't working, the building could not be used, which was why Monday's Town Council meeting had to be cancelled. (It was rescheduled for Thursday night at the auditorium at North Kingstown High School.)

Last week's cold caused a section of the sprinkler system in the northeast corner of the building crack. They had to wait for the pipes to thaw before addressing the problem, said Public Works Director Phil Bergeron Wednesday.

No flooding occurred. The building just couldn't be used by the public without the sprinkler system.
