You Ask, Patch Answers: Disturbance at NKHS

What happened outside of North Kingstown High School last week?

You may have seen some police activity at North Kingstown High School last week. Following the school shooting in Newtown, CT, parents have understandably been on edge about school safety and security. A few passerby saw several squad cars outside of NKHS and emailed us wondering what happened.

As school ended on Jan. 18, a fight broke out between four students at the corner of Annaquatucket and Fairway Drive right outside the high school around 2 p.m. According to reports, the fight began when a brother and sister pulled into a driveway on Annaquatucket Road to confront another student who was walking back to her car which was parked there. The brother allegedly accused the female student of calling her sister a name during school hours, which the girl denied. The brother then allegedly got out of his car, shoved the male student and said, “I’m going to kick your [expletive] because you upset my sister.”

The female student then told the two teenage boys to break up the fight. As she turned away, the sister allegedly jumped her and began to strike her several times in the back of the head before jumping back into the car.

Police arrived and were able to stop the brother, sister and the other passengers in the car before they left the driveway. The North Kingstown Fire Department treated the female victim for a head injury following the assault.

The sister (aged 15) was charged with simple assault and domestic disorderly conduct. Due to her age as a minor, her identity has been withheld.
