Tragedy Averted after Children Fall through Ice

Two children fell through the ice on Potowomut Pond. A third pulled them out and they managed to make it to shore safely.

Three children escaped what could have been an unspeakable tragedy on Potowomut Pond in North Kingstown after they fell through the ice on Sunday.

Firefighters responded to the pond at around 1:30 p.m. after two children reportedly fell through the ice while playing on the pond.

The third child managed to pull the other two out and they made it to shore by the time fire responders got to the scene.

WPRI reported that a neighbor saw what happened and helped until firefighters arrived.

The children are expected to be OK.

Firefighters are calling the third youth to pull friends from the icy water a hero.
