Threatening Message Found in NKHS Bathroom Deemed Not Credible

Police are still investigating the message found in a stall in the girls' bathroom.

 

A threatening message found in a bathroom stall at North Kingstown High School yesterday has been deemed "not credible" following an investigation by school officials and the North Kingstown Police Department.

The message was found in one of the school's bathrooms around 8 a.m. Wednesday, prompting school administration to contact the NKPD. Following last week's mass shooting in Newtown, CT, school officials decided to notify parents via email about the incident.

According to School Superintendent Phil Auger, these types of situations are not uncommon in North Kingstown. In April 2011, Davisville Middle School was evacuated twice in two days following two bomb threats. l. In January 2011, .

Auger would not elaborate on the details of the message, citing an ongoing investigation by the NKPD. Using surveillance footage, police have narrowed down the pool of suspects to a few students.

At its Jan. 8 meeting, the North Kingstown School Committee will discuss safety across the district. Auger is planning to make a brief presentation on the matter. Mulligan and Town Manager Michael Embury will also be in attendance to answer the committee's questions and concerns.
