Only A Drill: Wickford Junction Site For Emergency Training Saturday

The station, which is closed on weekends, will be used by first responders as an anti-terrorism training exercise between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday.

If you are on Ten Rod Road by Wickford Junction, don't panic if the train station is is overrun with police in riot gear. This is only a drill.

According to the state Department of Transportation, first responders will use the Wickford Junction commuter rail station to stage an anti-terrorism training exercise Saturday. The drill will include a mock assault on the station platform and will proceed to an Amtrak right of way on Royal Little Drive in Providence.

The drill runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. It's unclear if Wickford Junction will be used for that entire time.

The North Kingstown station is closed on weekends, and the exercise will not affect MBTA commuter rail service. The Providence Emergency Management Agency, Greater Providence Metropolitan Medical Response System, AmtrakRhode Island Emergency Management Agency and Providence and North Kingstown Police Departments will participate.
