Stony Lane Bench Thieves at it Again

One bench behind the school was stolen on May 28. A second was tampered with over the weekend.

After school officials at Stony Lane Elementary School noticed a bench weighing several hundred pounds was stolen from the playground over Memorial Day weekend, a second bench appears to have been in thieves' crosshairs.

After the first bench was reported stolen on May 28, school officials bolted the remaining benches to the ground. But that didn't stop what appears to be a plot in-progress to steal more.

Stony Lane Principal Ed Ferrario told police on June 16 that he was informed by janitors that morning that the bolts to a bench was removed over the weekend and it was moved to a different location on the property, as if in preparation to be stolen at a later time. When school let out on Friday, the bench was in place and secured, he said.

Ferrario said the bench will be brought inside overnight going forward and asked for extra patrols.
